Jol HUBAUT (France)

Jol Hubaut (1947, Amien, France) artist, performer, lingua-artist, musician. Covers various areas of the contemporary art, in a special way combining conservative genres of painting and sculpture with video and sound-poetry, performance and installation. In 1978 he established the Mixage International alternative space (1978-85, Caen), in 1981 he founded a rock group New Mixage, as a member of which he gave a number of concerts-performances in France and Great Britain, also published some musical compositions. He is the author of numerous publications, books, catalogues, among them are the following ones: Robe grillée (Galerie de lEstuaire Honfleur Ed., 1972), Hobby or not hobby (artists photo series, texts by P. Restany, P. Frank and J.-J. Lebel, Westport: Edition, 1983), Leffarant phare errant du pharaon (Richard Meier Ed., 1984), Poème Visuel (White Walls Ed., 1986), Pie-Pi-Pis théorème de Pieador peinture / poème (Parerga Ed., 1986), Poèmes construct (Ventabren Ed., 1988), The Rabbit Generation (CD-R, Galerie du Jour Agnés B.& Centre dArt et de Plaisanterie de Montbéliard, 1994), CLOM (Agnés B. Sunrise Ed., 1998), Art-LAge contemporain (du Regard Ed., 1998) and a number of others. In the collection Collection Pronto Epidémia 47 (Edition de la CREM) he was a co-author and designer of poetry books by G. Luca (#1, 1987), by J.-F. Bory (#2, 1987), I. Messac (#3, 1987), A. Borer (#4, 1991), C. Pélieu (#5, 1991), J. Blaine (#6, 1992), J. Giorno (#7, 1992). Hubaut published a number of sound poetry productions in various collections and literary miscellanies, including the following ones: Bacterial Voice Epidemia (LP, Illusion Prod., 1980), Polyphonix (LP, Giorno System Poetry et Cramps, 1982), Mix Métis Music (LP, Nouveau Mixage et Amnesty International Prod., 1985), Tetines Noires (CD, Boucherie Prod., 1992), Cent titres #1 (CD, CIPM Ed., 1999), etc., and also in the editions of the Centre International de poésie (Marseilles): 3 contre 1 (CD-R&CD, B. Heidsieck, J. Blaine, J.-F. Bory, J. Hubaut, trAce Label prod., 1999), Epidémik Text-Text Now (CD, trAce Label prod., 2000) and others. He showed his perform and sound poetry programs at the international festivals both in France and abroad, including such as: International Mixage Performance Festival (Utrecht Breda Rotterdam, 1980), Polyphonix (Guggenheim Museum, New-York, 1984), Performance Sound Poetry (George Pompidou Center, 1985), Milanopoesia (Milan, 1987), Oralite. Polyphonix 16 (Quebec, 1991), 2nd Performance Festival (Mexico City, 1993), Festival de la Bâtie (Geneva, 1995), NIPAF 98 (Nagano Nagoya Hiroshima Tokyo, 1998) and many others. He conducted numerous performances and solo exhibitions at various museums in Europe, USA, Canada, including: Centre G. Pompidou (Paris), Ruth Siegel Gallery (New-York), Bilinelli Gallery (Brussels), Kunstmuseum (Copenhagen), Art Modern Museum (Lyon), Museum of Old Charity (Marseilles), Ludwig Museum (Koblenz), Museum of Modern Art (Liege), Bundesrepublik Museum (Bonn), and also within the project Van Gogh TV at the documenta 9 (Kassel, 1992). He was the editor and art-director of the CD-series Collection Fractal Musik (Hérouville St.-Clair: Station Mir prod.): Satie-Tati-Kaki (1996), Operette dArtistes (1998). Jol Hubaut lives and works in Reville (France).
