Gian Paolo ROFFI (Italy)
Gian Paolo Roffi (1943, Bologna, Italy) – poet, artist, publisher. He began his creative literary and artistic activities in the midst 1970s. He is the author of a number of poetry books, including such as: Reattivi (Tam Tam Ed., 1984), Madrigali (Tam Tam Ed., 1986), Perverba (Tam Tam Ed., 1988), Contesti (Ricardi Editions, 1997) and others, of scripts for musical performances Con gli occhi di Simone (series of ballads, dedicated to Simone Weil, 1978), Ricordano Milly (1981). His works were widely published in various poetry magazines, collections and anthological editions both in Italy and abroad, including such as: Quasi, Baobab, Discorso Diretto, Viceversa, Babel, Tribuna, Letras Abiertas, Luz in Arte y Literatura, Lettera Internazionale, Offerta Speciale and others. In 1990 Roffi’s works were presented in the anthological section “La Poesia de la Imagen En Italia” of the poetic magazine Dimensão (#20, Uberaba: Dimensão, 1990), among the writers were A. Lora-Totino, E. Miccini, A. Spatola, L. Pignotti, M. Nannucci, E. Minarelli and others). As a visual poet he has realised his solo experimental poetry projects, among them are the following ones: L’immagine del respiro (1986-87; in the works, created in the style close to “concrete,” the search for links between phonetic expressiveness and visual row is emphasised), Schizographies (1988-89, a series of large-sized collages with discrete elements of reality and text, introduction by E. Miccini), verbo-visual series Voli (Colombo Ed., 1991), Segni & Segni (Il Navile Ed., 1997, a series of large-sized collages with the use of wooden printed types and African masks, introduction by P. Badini), Letterale (Offerta Speciale ed, 2000), etc. Roffi has conducted a number of solo and numerous group exhibitions, including such as: Parola Immagine (Galleria d’Arte Moderna, Gallarate, 1991), Modern Italian Artists (Museum of Chinese History, Peking, 1992), Italian Report (Metropolitan Museum, Tokyo, 1992 – Baik Sang Gallery, Seoul, 1993), Visual Poetry 1985-1995 (Museum Balaton, Keszthely, 1995), Italian Echo (Gallerie Forum, Gutersloh, 1996), Poesia Totale (Palazzo della Ragione, Mantova, 1998) and many others. For several years he was the editor for the experimental poetry magazine Baobab (jointly with A. Spatola), Tam Tam, Dopodomani. He was a member of the sound poetry group “Baobab” and perform group “I Metanetworker in Spirit” (A. Benfenati, M. Diotallevi, R. Maggi, G. P. Roffi). His sound poetry activities are represented in various collections, magazines and anthologies (LP, MC, CD-formats), including such as Antologia Polipoetica (STI Ed., Zaragosa, 1986), Canada – Italy (3 ViTrePAIR, Cento, 1987), Inter K-7/’87 (Inter/Le Lieu Ed., Quebec, 1987), Baobab (#14, 15, 19, 21, 21, Elytra Ed., Reggio Emilia, 1986-96), Radio Art (Harta Performing Ed., Monza, 1997), Doc(k)son 3 # 17-20 (Doc(k)s Ed., Ajaccio, 1998) and others. He often conducts his readings and poetic performances in collaboration with the musician Andrea Borgatti Schirinzi. Gian Paolo Roffi lives and works in Bologna (Italy).
