Miroslaw RAIKOWSKI (Poland)

He covers a wide range of activities Ц audio and radio art, sound poetry, sound installation, video and performance Ц using sound as material for creating works of art. The artist is also interested in the possibilities of the application of modern interactive technologies when creating visual and sound pieces. In the recent years he has produced a number of solo vocal projects, among them are the following ones: Sphere (Wroclaw: LGL, 1995), Improper Fraction (Wroclaw: LGL, 1996), Ecstatic Levitation (Wroclaw: LGL, 1998), The Primary Principle (Wroclaw: LGL, 1999), Ego/Centrum (Labirinthus) (CD-R, Wroclaw: LGL, 2000) and others. His works have also been produced as solo LP, MC, CD-releases, and within group musical, audio-art, and sound-poetic collections and miscellanies, including such as: Physical #2 (LGL, Poland, 1985), Metaphysical Music (M.T.A., Poland, 1985), Medytacja (Verbum, Poland, 1992), Reference One (ND, USA, 1993), Memorial of Bee-Eater (VEC Ed., the Netherlands, 1994), OM-Overtone chanting (AmandaSound Ed., Hungary, 1994), Overtones vol.1 (LGL, Poland, 1994), Flute Meditation (AmandaSound Ed., Hungary, 1994), Configuration (LGL-PMF, Poland-Japan, 1997), Baobab (3ViTre Ed., Italy, 1998) and many others. Raikowski conducts group performances and intensively collaborates with Polish and foreign counterparts, among them are the following: A. Dudek-Durer, T. Chigono, M. Pape, H. Clerval, M. Shannon, S. Kozawa, L. Miti, A. Artemijev and others. One of the peculiar features of RaikowskiТs solo activities is the demonstration of the traditional for Siberia, Tibet and a number of other regions practices of guttural singing. But being transferred onto European УstagesФ and placed into a different cultural context such practices, characterised by ecstatic forms of representations (shamanism) and expressive actionism, bring forth a certain form of ethno-poetics. RaikowskiТs productions obtain certain specificity when the author places innovative technological devices on the general corporal-speech background (techno-samples, noises, voices, nature sounds and others). Since 1992, Raikowski has been a member of the Other Media Artist Association (SASI), International Society of Contemporary Music (Polish section). He is the author of a number of articles on the issues of theory and history of contemporary art for the magazine УFormatФ (Poland), and also of a number of programs about contemporary music on the Radio Wroclaw (Wroclaw). He is a laureate of various grant contests, including such as Fundacija im Stefana Batorego, Fundacja Kulturi (Poland), Akademie der Künste (Germany). Miroslaw Raikowski lives and works in Wroclaw (Poland).
