Arrigo LORA-TOTINO (Italy)
Arrigo Lora-Totino (1928, Turin, Italy) Ц poet, performer, essay writer, artist, publisher. Since 1959 till 1966 he was the editor and publisher of the experimental and poetic review УAntipiugiuФ (jointly with S. Acutis, P. Carra, A. Passoni and others), also the author and publisher of the literary miscellany УModuloФ (1966), the first issue of which contained the anthology of concrete poetry УPoesia ConcretaФ (Genoa, 1966). In 1964 in Turin, jointly with the musician E. Zaffiri and artist S. De Alexandris, he founded a Center for Aesthetic Research Studio di Informazione Estetica, where he conducted numerous exhibitions of visual and experimental poetry, organised performances of sound poets, musicians, plastic actors. He has organised a number of large exhibitions of experimental literature, including such as: La lettura del linguaggio visivo (visual poetry, Torino Architecture Faculty, documentation УIl Compasso,Ф #1, 1966, Turin), and also Poesia Concreta. Indirizzi concreti visuali e fonetici (jointly with D. Mahlo, Venice Biennial, 1969). Lora-Totino is the author of numerous essays on visual and sound poetry in various magazines, literary collections, and catalogues of contemporary art. In 1978 he produced a basic anthology of the world sound poetry Futura, Poesia Sonora (historical-critical essay, seven LP-discs with the review of works from the beginning of the century till the present day, Milano: Cramps Records, 1978). Lora-TotinoТs sound poems have been released on more than twenty LPs, MCs, CDs, among them are such as: Phonetische Poesie (Germany, 1971), Source, Music of the Avant-Garde (USA, 1971), Text-Sound Festivals Ц 10 Years (Sweden, 1977), Poésie Sonore Internationale (France, 1980), 3 ViTre (Italy, 1983), Paté de Voix (Italy, 1985), Baobab Italia 90-91 (Italy, 1991) and many others. Lora-TotinoТs visual works have been published in numerous anthologies of the world, including such as: An Anthology of Concrete Poetry (New York, 1967), Concrete Poetry, A World View (Bloomington, 1968), Klanktexten, Koncrete Poezie, Visuele Teksten (Amsterdam, 1970), The Word as Image (London, 1971), Italian Visual Poetry 1912-1972 (New York, 1973), Antologija Konkretne (Lubliana, 1978), Poésie Sonore Internationale (Paris, 1979) and many others. He held more than one hundred and eighty show-performances in various countries, representing the trends Poesia Ginnica (plastic poetry) and Poesia Liquida (УliquidФ poetry, since 1974), and also mimic-declamatory readings of various texts of avant-garde literary trend (futurism, zaum, expressionism, dadaism, lettrism, concrete, etc., since 1976). Lora-Totino is the author of a number of futuristic performances (jointly with L. Vitalone, V. Magli, S. Sena, M. Cascavilla) shown at various theatres in Italy (for instance, Teatro Esposizioni di Riva del Garda, Teatro Zandonai di Rovereto and so on) and a number of programs for II Network RAI-TV (Italy). He participated in numerous group exhibitions of concrete, visual, experimental poetry in various countries. Arrigo Lora-Totino lives and works in Turin (Italy).
