Michael LENTZ (Germany)
Michael Lentz (1964, Düren, Germany) – poet, researcher, lingua-artist. He took courses in German studies, History and Philosophy at the Universities of Aachen, Munich. He is the author of a number of books of prose and poetry, including such as: Neue Anagramme (Wien: edition selene, 1998), Oder. Prosa (Wien: edition selene, 1998), Zungendreshe. Sprechakte (+ CD, Wien: edition selene, 2000). In 2000 the “edition selene” publishing house (Vienna) published his critical-documentary research consisting of 2 volumes: Lautpoesie /-musik nach 1945. Eine kritisch dokumentarische Bestandsaufnahme – a basis work, dedicated to the theory and history of sound poetry since 1945. Alongside the detailed commentary and analysis of the existing trends in the sound poetry, the review comprises of samples of creative activities of various authors, interviews and manifestos, characterising the state of the international experimental poetical process of the second half of the XXth century. In 1998, based on the above mentioned work, Lentz did his doctorate dissertation at the Universität GH Siegen (Siegen). He is the author of numerous articles on the issues of theory and history of sound poetry, of thematic programs on the radio, publications in magazines, catalogues and anthologies. Zur Klangästhetik der Schwedischen Text-Sound-Komponisten (B2, Forum, 2000) and others. Since 1996 he conducted a number of curator projects “SOUNDBOX. Akustische Kunst” at the Theater am Mirabellplatz (Salzburg), Marstall-Theater (Munich), Goethe-Forum (Munich), Black Box, Gasteig (Munich), in which representatives of various schools of sound poetry of the world participated, including such as: B. Cobbing, E. Gomringer, B. Heidsieck, A. Lora-Totino, O. Pastior, J. A. Riedl, J. Blonk, V. Scherstjanoi, A. Stewart, T. Wishart and others. Lentz repeatedly participated in various festivals, readings and concerts, including the ones held jointly with J. Blonk, U. Dick, P. Dutton, O. Pastior, J. A. Riedl and others. Since 1989 he has been performing as a member of J. A. Riedl’s ensemble (among the participants are: S. Blum, Z. Babel, S. Gabányi, C. & M. Hirsh, W. Hofmeister and others) – a group, tackling a wide range of experimental music, multimedia compositions, audio-visual environments, etc., and that is widely known outside Germany. Lentz is a laureate of various literary rewards and prizes, including the I Preis Individual Competition National Poetry Slam (1998), Literatutförderungspreis des Freistaates Bayern (1999), he is also a holder of a number of grants and scholarships. Since 1987, Lentz has been living and working in Munich (Germany).
