Werner LAUBSCHER (Germany)
Werner Laubscher (1927, Kaiserslautern, Germany) Ц poet, musician, artist. Started writing poetry in his early years, at the age of 8 began writing a poetic series УFour seasonsФ but, as he himself admits, Уwent as far as autumn only.Ф In 1938 he visited the exhibition УEntartete Kunst,Ф which impressed him so much that since the early age Laubscher got engaged not only in literature activities, but also in music and painting. When working as a schoolteacher, he received further education at the Universities of Heidelberg and Freiburg, attending courses in Geography, Philosophy (focusing on Jaspers, Heidegger and Husserl), in Music (specialising in Bach and music of the Late Middle Ages). After graduating from the university in 1962, Laubscher started working as a secondary school teacher, later, from 1976 till 1991, he worked as a headmaster. A great urge in his creative literary activities was the refusal in 1958 of two most significant German publishing houses to publish his manuscripts. After that Laubscher decided not to follow traditional literary schemas and ideas, and took his own way of poetic experiment, working out special methods of creation and recording of lyrics, poetic and prosaic texts. A great interest in the history of literature and art of the XXth century, the acquaintance with the contemporary tendencies and trends, the inner rejection of standard decisions foster LaubscherТs urge towards the synthesis, integral linking of various artistic phenomena. While painting (he conducted numerous solo exhibitions), and having independently mastered the piano and cello playing, Laubscher in his poetic activity started creating organic literary and musical compositions, demonstrating the symbiosis of a word and a sound. By the year 2000 he has published eleven books of poetry and prose, many of which are accompanied by his own illustrations. Among his books are the following: Witerreise. Wintersprache (Annweiler: Ploger), Wortflecht und Lautbeiss (Annweiler: Ploger), Suite 25 b (Hamburg: Wohlleben), Über die gefüllten Tomaten (Neu-Isenburg: Patio, 1995), Winterkassation (Heidelberg: Das Wunderhorn), DieGermansviller Dokumente (Blieskastel: Gollenstein), Das geheimnisvolle Bordcase und andere Kriminalgeschichten (Annweiler: Ploger, 1998) and others. He is the author of numerous publications of prose and poetry in various literary magazines, literary miscellanies and anthologies both in Germany and abroad. His sound poetry productions were repeatedly represented as scores in his own books, and also a number of works was included in the collective CD-anthology: Bobeobi. Lautpoesie (Obermichelbach: Gertraud Sholz Verlag, 1994). Laubscher is a member of various writersТ associations, also several times has been the author of collections and anthologies. He is the laureate of a number of literary rewards and prizes, including Martha Saalfeld Ц Förderpreis (1996), Buch des Jahres, Rheinland-Pfalz (1989, 1997), Pfalzpreis für Literatur (1997). Werner Laubscher lives and works in Kandel (Germany).
