Richard KOSTELANETZ (USA)
Richard Kostelanetz (1940, New York, USA) Ц poet, artist, essay writer, critic. He is the author of more than fifty books of poetry, essays on the issues of contemporary art, theory of contemporary literature, including such as: The End of Intelligent Writing (Sheed & Ward, 1974), Twenties in the Sixties (Greenwood Ц Assembling Ц Wild & Woolley, 1979), The Old Poetries and the New (University of Michigan, 1981), The Old Fictions and the New (McFarland, 1987), Conversing with Cage (Limelight, 1988), The New Poetries and Some Old (Southern Illinois, 1991), On Innovative Art(ist)s (McFarland, 1992), A Dictionary of the Avant-Gardes (A Cappella, 1993), ABC of Contemporary Reading (San Diego State University, 1995), John Cage Ex(plain)ed (Schirmer, 1996) and many others. Since 1970 till 1986 he was the editor and publisher of the УAssemblingФ magazine (folio-format, twelve editions comprising of 1000 issues), one of the key alternative editions of the 1970s-80s, that provided with the name the whole trend in the contemporary art. He complied and prepared for publishing more than thirty anthologies on literature and art, among them are the following ones: Imaged Word & Worded Images (Outerbridge & Dienstfrey, 1970), Language & Structure (Kensington Arts, 1975), Text-Sound Texts (Morrow, 1980), American Writing (Voice of America Forum Series, 1981), The Avant-Garde Tradition in Literature (Prometheus, 1982) and others. He has conducted more than twenty solo exhibitions of graphics, book-art, texts (since 1975), about thirty solo and more than ten group concerts of sound poetry and experimental music in various cities in the USA and Europe. Kostelanetz is the author of a large number of sound plays, sound poetry productions presented in LP, MC, CD-formats, including such as: Experimental Prose (1976), Audio Art (1978), Invocations (1983), Audio Writing (1984), Onomatopoeia (1988), The Gospels Abridged (1990), Ululation (1992) and others, he also participated in a number of anthologies of sound poetry (LP, CD-format) in various countries. His experimental poetry, prosaic and fiction productions have been published, altogether, in five hundred magazines, literary miscellanies, books and anthologies of contemporary literature and art. As a guest professor he lectured at the University of Texas, also delivered lectures on the contemporary art at various educational institutions in Europe and America. He is the author of more than twenty video and TV films (presentations at the film festivals in Berlin, Oberhausen, Munich, Melbourne, Edinburgh and so on), at different periods УAnthology Film ArchivesФ (New York) and УBumbershootФ (Seattle)conducted retrospective show of his video and audio productions.
