Brenda Hutchinson (1954, Trenton, New Jersey, USA) Ц composer, sound and multimedia-artist, objects author. Studied Music Composition at the Carnegie-Mellon University (BFA, Pittsburgh, 1976) and the University of California (MA, San Diego, California, 1979). She covers a wide range of contemporary media arts (audio, video, film, multimedia), conducts performances and creates radio and video compositions, also works in the area of dancing, opera and cinema. Using in her productions the elements of performance, lingua-art, ambient and sampling techniques, she brings them to the frontier multi-artistic state. At different periods Hutchinson collaborated with the texts author B. Gregory (УSentences,Ф 1991), folk singer J. Lang (УKaninpais,Ф 1992), choreographers N. Zendora (УThe Return,Ф 1993; УWhite Density,Ф 1995), E. King (УPassing,Ф 1999), and also musicians L. Sonami, B. Custer, M. Slawig, R. Goto and others. She has participated in numerous festivals of experimental music and contemporary art, including the following: 100% Concentrated Sound (San Francisco, 1990), New Music America (Montreal, 1990), Sonic Disturbance Festival (Cleveland, 1991), Soundwatch (Auckland, 1994), Subtropics Festival (Miami, 1994), Via Bahia Festival (Salvador, 1995), Soundculture (San Francisco, 1996), УbobeobiФ, Internationales Festival der Lautpoesie (Berlin, 1996), Six Exquisites Sound Festival (Tacoma, 1997), Klang-art Festival (Osnabrük, 1999) and many others. Hutchinson performed her productions on various specialised grounds in the USA and Europe, including such as Merkin Concert Hall (New York), Headlands Center for the Arts (Sausalito), Asian American Theatre (San Francisco), Victory Theatre (New York), Musikraum (Berlin), Academie Schloss Solitude (Stuttgart), LOT Theatre (Braunschweig), Kunsthalle (Linden) and many others. She is the author of a number of artistic objects and installations with the use of hand-made tools and music-boxes. She has participated in various group exhibitions, among them are the following ones: ElectroТ91 (Visual Studies Workshop, Rochester, 1991), Memory And Aging (Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Staten Island, 1992), Please Touch: Interactive Sculpture and Video (Bedford Gallery, Walnut, 1993), Homemade Musical Instruments (also as a curator of the exhibition in 1997 and 1999, Lincoln Center Out Of Doors, New York, 1995), Play It By Ear (Bay Area Discovery Museum, Sausalito, 1999), Sounds Like Art (Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, 1999), Sinusoidal (SF State University Gallery, San Francisco, 1999) and others. Her experimental-musical and sound-poetic productions have been published in a number of musical collections, magazines, anthological editions (LP, MC, CD-formats), and solo releases.
