Fernando AGUIAR (Portugal)
Fernando Aguiar (1956, Lisbon, Portugal) Ц poet, artist, performer, exhibition organiser. He is the author of seven poetry and visual poetry books, including such as: Poemas + OU Ц HISTÓ(E)RICOS (Lisbon, 1974), O Dedo (Lisbon, 1981), Rede de Canalização (Almada, 1987), Minimal Poems (Siegen, 1994), Indicis (Barcelona, 1995), Recent Actions (Lisbon, 1997), and also prose: Rosarinho (Lisbon, 1979), Rosarinho e Alzira (Lisbon, 1979), Uéré Du Guaraqueçaba (Troina, 1998). He graduated from the department of Design of the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes in Lisbon. He is the author of five anthologies and anthological reviews of contemporary visual poetry of Portugal: Poemografias. Perspectivas da Poesia Visual Portuguesa (Lisboa: Ulmeiro Ed., jointly with S. Pestana, 1985), 1 Festival Internacional De Poesia Viva (Lisboa: Associação Poesia Viva Ed., 1987), Concreta. Experimental. Visual Ц Poesia Portuguesa 1959-1989 (Lisboa: Instituto de Cultura e Lingua Portuguesa Ed., jointly with G. Silva, 1989, second edition Ц 1990), Visuelle Poesie Aus Portugal (Siegen: Experimentelle Texte Ed., 1990), Poesia Experimental Portuguesa Dels 90 (Barcelona: RsalvoEditions Ed., 1994). Aguiar conducted about thirty solo exhibitions of visual poetry in Portugal, Hungary, Belgium, Mexico, Poland, Italy, Spain, Arabes Emirates, since 1983 he has held more than eighty performances at various festivals of contemporary poetry, including the following ones: Performance Portugaise (Georges Pompidou Center, Paris, 1984), III Rencontres Internationales De Poésie Contemporaine (Cogolin, 1986), III Bienal Internacional De Poesia Visual, Experimental y Alternativa (Mexico, 1990), Geme Festival DТIN(TER)VENTION (Quebec, 1990), Festival Di Polipoesia (Bologna,1993), 10 Ans De Poésie Directe (Marseilles, 1995), NIPAFТ97 (Tokyo, 1997), etc. He is the organiser and co-organiser of a number of international exhibitions of visual poetry (with expositions in Portugal, France, Italy, Mexico), among them are the following ones: 1 Festival Internacional De Poesia Viva (Figueira da Foz, 1987), Concreta. Experimental. Visual Ц Poesia Portuguesa 1959-1989 (Bologna Ц Paris Ц Lyon, 1989-91) and many others. He is the author of numerous publications in magazines, collections, catalogues and anthologies on visual poetry in Portugal, France, Italy, Mexico, Canada, Great Britain, USA, Germany, Brasil, Spain, Russia and Japan, among the anthologies are the following ones: Poemografias (Lisbon, 1985), Signos Corrosivos (Mexico, 1987), Meaning Meaning (London, 1989), Innovations 1 (Maple City, 1991), Poesia Sonora (São Paulo, 1992), Poesia Experimental Portuesa Dels 90 (Barcelona, 1994) and others. He participated in the conferences on the issues of experimental poetry at the Universities of Mexico City, Budapest, Prague, Berlin, and also in various educational institutions in Portugal, Italy, Poland, Brazil, Japan. He participated in about three hundred group exhibitions of visual poetry, painting and graphic art, photography, video, installation and performance in Europe, USA, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Japan. Aguiar received a Prize Laconicus for cultural merit at the IV Brasilian Congress of Poetry (Bento Gonçalves, 1996). He lives and works in Lisbon (Portugal).
